If a person develops a Ringworm Skin infection on the scalp, he or she needs to get to a doctor fast! This infection can leave a person permanently bald if not treated quickly. In addition, this is extremely contagious and spreads rapidly in families and classrooms. The scalp ringworm infection is prominent among school aged children. Young kids tend to play together and be in constant close contact with each other. This helps to increase the rate of transmission for the ringworm fungus. Scalp Ringworm can be spread from person to person and animal to person. In addition, it can be spread from object to person. In other words, a person can touch something that has ringworm on it and become infected. Constant hand washing is extremely important. The best way to deal with scalp ringworm is not to get it in the first place. This is particularly nasty infection to get rid of once it starts. Not sharing combs and brushes is one of the best ways to prevent this contagious disease. Large families where there are a lot of children tend to share combs. This is okay as long as no one has scalp ringworm, but if just one person has scalp ringworm everybody will contract this infection. It is just not worth it. Make sure everyone has his or her own comb. Also teach your children not to share combs with their friends. If someone contracts scalp ringworm, he or she should go to a doctor as soon as possible. I am not going to recommend any home remedies here because it is too risky. A person can get permanent bald spots from untreated ringworm. Most of the time, a doctor will prescribe an oral anti fungal medication like Lamisil tablets. Taking Lamisil pills will put the medicine right into the bloodstream which helps to fight the infection better. However, Lamisil has side effects associated with the medication. The oral form of Lamisil is only available by prescription.

Should you see a Dermatologist or a Regular Doctor?
Well, it all depends. I'm going to be honest with you here. In either case, time is experience and experience only comes with time. When I had poison ivy, I went to a regular doctor who had a general practice. However, he was an older doctor. He took one look at my arm which was completely covered with poison ivy and prescribed me 7 days worth of prednisone tablets. He said that the infection was too vast to treat with ointments. Roll ahead a few years, and I came down with this ringworm thing. I went to the doctor again and got a younger doctor. He told me that he didn't think I had ringworm. He even got another doctor to look at my ringworm and that doctor did know what it was either. However, I knew I had it because my cat had two spots of it on her back. It was more than a coincidence for me. Those doctor I went to for my ringworm was very kind and understanding but he didn't know a lot about ringworm. I had a severe case of it all over my body. He probably never saw something like that before, and it may be years before he runs across another bad case of ringworm. The older doctor who treated my poison ivy had probably dealt with this type of thing many times so he knew exactly what to do and how to treat the ailment. Learn more about how to get rid of ringworm on the scalp? My recommendation is if you have ringworm, call ahead and ask if the doctor there will be able to treat your infection.
